Prediction,

Given that Smith and Eggington are both pressure fighters, neither technically that good, and they are not badly matched, I don't see how this can be anything other than a great fight.

Smith should be the favourite, he is a former world champion, but to be fair to Eggington, in terms of who he and Smith have beaten, there is not a lot in it, and although Smith has been in against Alvarez, Munguia, a great fighter, and a possible future great fighter, he lost both fights, weren't mismatches, good fights, especially Munguia vs Smith, but against Alvarez, he got stopped, wasn't close at the time of the stoppage, and against Munguia, although it was very competitive, it was a landslide UD.

I think Smith is a level above Eggington, Smith is a steady, half-decent world level fighter in my opinion, Eggington is a good European level fighter, but he is poor at world level, the difference is, Eggington has won most and lost a few at European level and lower, Smith is undefeated below world level, and apart from Liam Williams, his career has been mostly easy I think, Williams as well, the current middleweight British champion, was undefeated before he fought Smith, and Smith won the title against John Thompson, he was not the technically better fighter in that fight, but he knocked Thompson out for the title, defended twice, with ease, none of those opponents were good at world level, but Eggington was out boxed by Skeete, Mimoune, who are European level fighters.

I think this will be a very competitive fight, neither fighter will want to take a step back, both fighters are good at attacking the body, both do well in a battle of attrition, but I think although Smith's defence isn't great, Eggington's defence is terrible, and Smith is the more methodical fighter.

I think Smith will win this by wide UD.

Phenomenal performance from Liam Smith! That was a very good fight, Eggington hit Smith with a lot of good shots, but he was the one taking all the damage, took so many shots, was hurt, was resistant enough not to go down, but is so easy to hit, which is why he always takes so much punishment, he doesn't know how to survive, he is just tough. Eggington is young, but he will be a very old 30, he has a lot of miles, has taken a few beatings, maybe he should retire, if not, he should fight at British, European level at the most. I can see Smith fighting for a world title next year, maybe an eliminator this year, or maybe even in his next fight, but I think Smith has at least more world title fight left, even if he doesn't win a world title again, he can still be competitive at world level.
