Kubrat Pulev vs Hughie Fury
Former European heavyweight champion, Kubrat Pulev, takes on Manchester's Hughie Fury, in his hometown of Sofia.
Pulev and Fury have both fought for a world title once, and both lost, but both are undefeated outside of world title fights.
The fight is an eliminator for the IBF heavyweight world title, held by Anthony Joshua, who Pulev was scheduled to challenge for his belts in October 2017, before he pulled out on an injury.
The fight is interesting early, Fury, throwing a lot more punches, but not really landing anything, Pulev, landing a couple of clean jabs, opening a bad cut on Fury's eyelid. The first couple of rounds are very tentative, but despite the cut, Fury seems to be starting to outwork a ponderous looking Pulev in round 3.
From round 4 to round 12, Pulev boxes well, from round 5 to round 12, with the exception of round 8, when Fury badly hurts Pulev with a great right hand, Pulev dominates, bullying Fury, outhustling him, landing the more, the much better punches round after round, controlling the fight with his jab, and putting the right hand behind the jab at times.
The fight is a mess, there is a clear lack of variety from Fury, who looks terrible for the majority of the fight, there is more clinching, time killing than clean work being done, and the styles of the fighters clash in a bad way.
Pulev gets a wide UD win, and not a controversial one, puts himself in position to fight Joshua.
