Prediction,

Another tune up for Parker, should be a good momentum boost. I would be shocked if Leapai went 6 rounds, I'd think it unlikely he'll go past 4. Because of his age, Parker's experience will make him a better fighter without him physically declining, I think his best years are ahead of him.

Champion97's picture

All in all, that wasn't a good performance from Parker, no real weaknesses or issues with his boxing, looked solid, but that was lacklustre, a dull fight, I may have exaggerated Leapai's inability to last when I made the prediction that it was almost guaranteed it wasn't going 6 rounds, but Parker should not have taken 10 rounds to stop Leapai, at 39, and it wasn't an explosive or even conclusive finish, the referee just wisely called a halt to a very one sided contest, still a legitimate stoppage win, didn't fail stop Leapai eventually, but he should have stopped him at least 3 rounds earlier, and more conclusively.

I still think Parker is getting better, has his best years ahead of him, and I hope that's the case, because he's a top man, Parker, never runs his mouth, and he is a good fighter, but I think putting a fighter who is only there because he is tough is a mistake, because Parker doesn't have the style or mentality of a fighter who can look brilliant against an easy opponent, which is why when Leapai gassed, got less aggressive himself, Parker would use his jab, move, defend well, and he would land the odd power shot, hurt Leapai, Leapai couldn't soak his power up, later in the fight as he could early, but Parker was not building on it, it's unlikely he couldn't build on it, because he was still light on his feet, his punches were still fast and the power was still there, a lot of feints as well, I think mentally, he just didn't have that aggression, that killer instinct that a fighter needs, we've seen that killer instinct from him before, he does have it when his opponent can push him, bring it out of him, like against Takam and especially Whyte, almost stopped Whyte, but he just didn't have the spite and intent behind his shots against Leapai, he won, won easily, had no problems getting the better of his opponent in any round, but he did not make a statement, it was a very dull fight, a win is a win, not getting Leapai out of there won't make him a worse fighter, but in terms of business, selling tickets in the US, being an entertaining fighter who a lot of people will pay to watch, this fight will have done Parker more harm than good.
