Prediction,

I like this fight, interesting one, good test for Joe Cordina!

Joe Cordina is one of the really good prospects in the UK, he made a great start last year, he had a good amateur career, and now he is 7-0, coming off a solid stoppage win over an opponent who was a step up from his previous opposition. Cordina is more or less untested at this level, this is a step up, he has been a pro for 15 months, 7 fights, 26 years old, it is a good time to push on. This isn't too much, too soon for Cordina, Dodd, an overachiever, a popular fighter, a warrior, and a very successful British level fighter, but we know how godd he is, pretty much, and he isn't a high enough level that Cordina isn't good enough or isn't ready.

Dodd has done well in his career, won Commonwealth, International titles, impressed against Scott Cardle, was unlucky to get a draw the second time, he gave Tom Stalker a towsing, but in his last fight, he was stopped, he was dropped more than once, hurt, he's 34 now, Dodd, what does he have left?

I think Dodd is significantly better than Hakim Ben Ali, so this is a step up for Cordina. This is a test for Cordina, Dodd is the more experienced fighter here, but I think Cordina is im improving very quickly, and I think this is already prepared to beat Dodd.

I think this will be a good one, Cordina will not go down without a fight, he will take Cordina past 4 rounds, but by round 8, I think Cordina will gave got him out of there, should be a good fight.

Can Cordina take a world title belt back to Wales like Calzaghe, Cleverly, Selby?

Good performance from Joe Cordina!
That was what Cordina needed, a test, needed rounds, needed to fight an opponent who could take his power, an opponent he could learn from beating, and that's what this fight was, he made mistakes, Cordina, got hit with more shots in this fight thn in his first 7 put together, but still boxed very well, proved he is a talented fighter with potential, handled the distance very well for a fighter who had fought mostly really poor opponents, he hadn't been 6 rounds before, so he did well to keep winning the rounds, keep landing with power, stay light on his feet in the late rounds.
Dodd did brilliant, tried his best, probably knew he wasn't as good as Cordina, knew if he was going to win it was going to be about experience. Dodd was brilliant at making it a rough, ugly fight, when Cordina wanted to land good, clean shots, Dodd, was able to get in close, land uppercuts from blind spots, land the overhand right, hook, and the exchanges were close, good to watch.
Dodd was matching Cordina shot for shot quite often, but Cordina was landing the heavier shots, and although you might not expect him to, he did the better body work as well, and he was landing the toll taking punches, which is one of the reasons Dodd faded in the second half.

Cordina can punch, and he has skill, good amateur pedigree, has great footwork, mobile fighter, he can attack head and body, with variety, I didn't see as much of the jab as I expected in this fight, but Cordina is a counter puncher, very good defence, can pivot, this was a good test for him, he did the 12 rounds, out fought a tough opponent, he learned in this fight, now, he should fight more good British and Commonwealth level opponents, and if keeps improving, he can step up, but he has a long way to go before he can be considered world level, he might well be world level in a few years though.
