Prediction,

Charlo is the business, I think he is ranked right up there with his brother, is the best in his division, and a great fighter. Charlo didn't do as well as I think he could have done against Trout, it was an MD, some had it close, I think he might have underestimated Trout, tried too hard to knock him out, but it was still a good performance against Trout, who isn't shot yet, beat Cotto and gave Alvarez all he could handle. The unification against Hurd is the fight we all want to see in 2019, that's the top 2 at 154 unifying 3 of the 4 belts, and it's a fight I can see happening, there is obviously a lot to gain for both, both are with Showtime and PBC, both are advised/managed by Al Haymon, and both should be confident they can beat each other.

Until the Hurd fight is made, Charlo should just stay busy, defend his title, and this is a good fight for him, Tony Harrison is not bad, he dominated, stopped Rabchenko in 2016, that was a great performance, and against Hurd, before he gassed, and was stopped, late, he did out work, outbox Hurd for a good 5 rounds, I thought he was winning that fight. This is not a fight Charlo should take lightly, it is not a tune up, Harrison is 28, he can punch, he is experienced, he can box, has good movement, does the basics well, and in his last fight, he beat Ishe Smith. I think Harrison is only a slight step down from Trout in terms of calibre, but he isn't on the decline like Trout is, so this might be almost as tough a fight for Charlo as the Trout fight.

With the Smith, Rabchenko wins, stopped McKart in 1 round as well, Harrison is not bad at any level, but against Hurd, he couldn't sustain his work, and when Hurd came on strong, Harrison was stopped, he also lost to Willie Nelson by stoppage, so Harrison is relatively vulnerable, he isn't a great boxer, doesn't do anything great, and when it comes to this level, he maybe gets found out for simply not being that good, so I expect Charlo to win this, and it should not go the distance.

Harrison has 2 inches height, and 3-4 inches reach on Charlo, so that is a real advantage for Harrison, he is a big light middleweight, and if he uses his reach, keeps it at distance, he can give Charlo problems, if he takes a leaf out of Jackson's book, because Jackson was cruising against Charlo for 4-6 rounds, Charlo was struggling to cut off the ring, but that was a great learning fight for Charlo, cutting off the ring, walking his opponent down, he has proven he can do that in recent fights, just needed to learn in the ring.

That uppercut that Charlo finsihed Lubin with, that was a top draw punch, perfectly executed, lethal shot, if he can land one like that against a more experienced, less cocky, taller opponent in Harrison, that will be impressive, and in terms of the build up for the Hurd fight, he could do with a good finish like that, because his win over an older Trout wasn't as impressive as Hurd's win over Trout, so it would be great for the build up if Charlo could beat Harrison more impressively than Hurd did, I think he is capable of landing a one punch knockout like he did against Hatley and Lubin, but he has to set it up, draw Harrison onto it, like he did against Lubin, because if he does what he did against Trout, won't cost him the fight, but he will under perform, won't get the impressive win he is looking for, but a knockout shouldn't be on his mind early, because of Harrison's style, if he is going to catch Harrison, set him up, Harrison will be more vulnerable later in the fight.

Charlo will be tested in this fight, Harrison can hit, I think Charlo has a good chin, not seen him hurt before, and Jackson can hit hard, but if Harrison lands his best shot, it will be interesting to see if Charlo can just walk through it, of if it will hurt him slightly. Charlo's ability to box consistently, use educated pressure, stick to the game plan, round after round, will be tested, because Harrison doesn't give you many openings, he is awkward, looks for you to make mistakes, so this should be an interesting fight, and a decent test for Charlo.

I think Charlo knocks Harrison out in 7 rounds, I think he will be ahead on the cards, maybe 4-2 or 5-1 at the widest, Harrison will move, try to establish that distance early, pot shot Charlo, and the rounds will be tentative early, but Charlo will work his way into the fight, cut off the ring, apply educated pressure, bully Harrison, tag him on the counter, and in round 7, when Harrison is fading, struggling mentally as well, Charlo will set him up as he makes just a small mistake, and he'll knock him out.

I wasn’t even watching with commentary on though. I just didn’t see how he won 6, as he got outworked in my view. But, now I hope it’s Hurd-Munguia unification. That would be a war..

The rounds Harrison won I thought he was landing the more effective blows, had better defense, and better ring generalship. A lot of Charlo's combinations were ineffective in my opinion. His effort probably wouldn't have won him the title in a lot of instances because people have notions that the challenger has to take the championship and that aggression in itself counts in scoring. Can't see Hurd vs. Munguia happening because of the network and promotional divides, but we will very likely see either Hurd vs. Harrison or Harrison vs. Charlo rematch.

I agree - this is the narrative missing from the post-fight commentary. Charlo was hitting air for most of the night. In real time it looked like clean punches, but Harrison blocked or parried most. For the first 9 rounds Harrison's jab was the cleanest, most effective aggression and Charlo could not find his rhythm. Harrison fought brilliantly, but I think he will need better power punching in the rematch to secure another win.

The commentary for these fights might be the worst I've ever seen when it comes to being biased. They would straight up ignore landed punches. Korobov smashed Charlo with a left, and Lewis said that was a good check left hook!

I do think Charlo deserved the decision over Harrison, but Harris did a lot of good work in those middle rounds. Both Charlos look overrated right now.

Sugar Ray Leonard and Lennox Lewis have been commentators before and they both sucked before, they only got their new jobs because of their name recognition. Now they don't just suck, they shill for the network a-side fighter throughout the fight. These networks need to try out new guys instead of going back to these old commentary retreads because there have to be better guys out there. It really makes me appreciate the good commentators we do have and the good commentators we've had over the years.

I see a few comments on the fight commentary. I generally feel ALL commentators talk too much, about the wrong things and there is no need for three of them to have microphones. Call me old-school, but I like the radio-style commentary where they describe the action primarily adding color and additional insight to your visual of the fight.

Might have to rewatch this one...after watching the 2nd round closely I gave it to Harrison when I first gave it to Jermell. I'll do a punch count as well and post it on this site. Seems like a lot of shots that I thought landed for Charlo were actually blocked

I've only seen it once but this was my problem with Jermell in this fight too. He was coming forward and throwing combinations but a lot of them seemed to be wasteful, they either missed or were blocked by Harrison.

Commentary in rounds 7 and 8 is poor, 'Fight is slipping away from Harrison', 'Harrison is afraid to miss', Harrison needs to stand there and fight Charlo', this is very poor, expected more from a boxing legend like Lewis, still like PBC, but this is disappointing.

Round 9, it's even worse, 'Charlo is told he is trying to hard to kncok Harrison out, but he is not getting opportunities, got to try to hard to knock him out', 'Harrison landed a right hand but Charlo just says is that all you got?' 'Harrison will be disappointed after this fight'.

Round 10 I've had to turn it off, ruins the fight for me. This is disgusting, filling people's heads with BS. Disappointed by Charlo's performance, he underestimated Harrison, he's better than Harrison, but he was not the better fighter on the night, he should have learned from the Trout fight, that chasing a KO that is not coming, doesn't get you the KO, he should have listened to what Spence told him and probably what Derrick James has told him a million times, he should have known to be smarter, he wasn't pressing for the KO against Lubin and Hatley, at this level, Trouts, Harrisons, want you to get reckless and go for the KO, so they can counter you.

I think Charlo wins a rematch, but I don't know if he is as good as I thought he was, and definitely, he needs to make some changes, tactics wise, needs to think more, but based on this fight, no way he beats Hurd, Lara beats him, and Munguia is ready for him, more than good enough to beat him.

I don't like 8-4 in a fight this close, but the decision was very fair, 2 points either way, can't complain, very close fight, Harrison boxed that fight of his life, Charlo was poor.

Why would the judges rob Charlo? Harrison doesnt call the shots, no reason for him to be robbed, same nationality, more Charlo fans in the crowd, no robbery, Charlo's corner didn't look that shocked or angry, no reason to think Charlo got robbed.

Harrison was competitive in the early rounds, but got more tentative as the fight wore on. He was out-worked and out-landed by Charlo, who pressed the action throughout. Charlo did not look great in part because of Harrison's defense and reluctance to engage. Normally a timid performance like Harrison's does not win a belt, but in this case it did. Robbery? No. Bad decision? Yes. One of the judges is one of the very worst in the sport. Another is wrong as often as they are right so I was not surprised. I disagreed with some, but not all of the commentary - they were general seeing what I was seeing - a guy in Harrison that seemed to be satisfied with surviving versus going after Charlo's belt.

This is always pointless to discuss, when two scorers see the fight so differently, we are not going to agree, respect your opinion, agree to disagree. The result is a UD for Harrison, but it is also an upset, and Charlo is better than Harrison, but is he as good as I and some other people thought? I doubt it.

Harrison got less active as the fight went on but was very defensive, and here's the key, he was active enough to make a case he won a few rounds, had one very good round, and qas likely ahead after 6 rounds, could well have won the fight by out boxing Charlo for enough of the fight. Charlo was trying to press the action, but his shots looked better than they were, a lot of them didn't land, and he got out landed overall, no doubt about that. Harrison was not reluctant to engage to the extent that he wasn't doing enough, he engaged enough, but didn't take unnecessary risks, Charlo's aggression is why the fight was close.

Timid? Intelligent? Just two different ways of looking at the same fight.

What's the difference between a bad decision and a robbery? Judges aren't doing it deliberately? Either way, the decision was not a bad one, because it was a toss up fight, don't like 116-112, but no bad decision.

The commentary was terrible in my opinion, very biased. That's not what Harrison was doing, not at all, he was defending well, sticking to a good game plan, and it was going well enough, that was not a survival mission, he out landed Charlo, was moving backwards and defending because that was necessary to win the fight, it is not fan friendly, but it is boxing, skills pay bills, hit, and do not get hit.

Charlo tried too hard to knock Harrison out, he should have looked less for one big shot, and worked more on pressuring Harrison, more on breaking him down, but he should have let more shots go, forced Harrison to exchange more than that was good for him, but I think in a rematch, Charlo would have more room for improvement.

After this, how do you rate the Charlos?

Hey Champ - I agree with most of what you have written here. I thought rds 2, 3, 5 and 9 were the swing rounds. Shaded 2 & 9 to Harrison, 3 to Mell and 5 even. I had it 87-85 Mell headed into the 10th and was very disappointed in Harrison's effort in the last three rounds as I thought he had a real opportunity to win the fight but in my eyes, just refused to step on the gas.

That said, my problem with BOTH Charlos, even before this fight, is their opponent selection. Great fighters need to continue to make great fights or they risk fighting down to the level of their opponents - which to a fair degree - both brothers did on Saturday with their opponents. Skills-wise, I believe they are clearly superior to those opponents they faced but both under-performed significantly.

Mall, I think is still a borderline top-5 MW, but am even less sure now he is ready for a Canelo, GGG, Jacobs or even Saunders. He was way too easy to hit with that straight left from Korobov. Saunders might even dominate him. And again, who has Mall fought at MW to prove anything?

Mell should stil have his belt in the my opinion but he has no one to blame but himself for creating the opportunity for the surprise decision. I rank Hurd best, but Mell is still probably 2nd best. I think he beats Munguia if they fight, but may struggle to look good against Lara (like most do). Brook is past prime and looked bad in his last outing. Who am I forgetting?

Oh, one more thing...if Lubin has the mental toughness to overcome his KO loss to Mell in 2017, he could be back to make some noise at the top of the division. He's only 23 and has (had?) legitimate talent. It was a poor decision by his team to take that Charlo fight in 2017.

I strongly disagree that Harrison was disappointing, it was Charlo who was trailing and needed the better finish, as far as I'm concerned anyway. Harrison was the more tired in the late rounds, because he had thrown more punches, worked harder throughout the rounds. He refused to take unnecessary risks, I don't think either of us will change our opinions, so let's agree to disagree.

Meh, yes and no, I didn't think their opposition was poor so much, because they fought Trout, unbeaten fighters like Lubin and Williams, who were supposed to give them problems, but I agree that they were unproven when it came to comparing them to Canelo. I agree, they both could have done better.

And how much of it is a case of him being ready? And how much of it is about him being good enough or not good enough?, because he's 28, been 12 rounds twice, been in against Trout, he isn't inexperienced. Good question, I would say Korobov, but it is hard to give him that much credit for the win alone, then again, Korobov is good.

In my opinion, Mell doesn't beat Munguia and Lara, but I think you are wise not to get carried away after seeing him lose. Nobody really, not a great division to be honest, was great a couple of years back, might be great in a couple of years time, but it is just a little bit stale at the minute.

We'll see. 100% agree, he was nowhere near ready, same way Teofimo Lopez is nowhere near ready for Lomachencko and Dubois is nowhere near ready for Joshua. It is a risk putting guys in the deep end early, Shiro fought Lopez and Guevara early in his career, those fights were the making of him, but Lubin, very different story.

Compubox said Mell threw 548 to Harrison's 377 (and out-thrown in every round) so I am not understanding your point of view regarding Harrison's work-rate. I'm not a Compubox worshiper but that is a pretty wide margin.

Also, of all the cards submitted by users on this page, only 1 person thinks Harrison won 2 of the last 3 rounds, so it is nearly unanimous that people felt Charlo finished the fight stronger. Again, not because he looked so great but Harrison missed an opportunity to step on the gas. Ultimately he benefited from the surprise decision so it worked for him in this case. Different judges would have been a different story. Anyway, it's history now...Mell has to prove the decision was a fluke with a more convincing performance if there is a rematch.

I do think there is an undercurrent of bias against the Charlos, who do seem to be increasing in their general dislikability. Also, when ringside commentators "dig-in" with a forceful opinion or engage in mob-mentality-group-think, it tends to drive us towards a contradictory viewpoint - sometimes too far. So I get that. The HBO guys had the ability to get under my skin a number of times. Can't say I am sad to see them go.

Moving on... and speaking of dis-likability...Broner is one lucky dude. Makes every bad move seemingly possible for his career...and wins the Pacman sweepstakes! smh Interestingly though I think this is a much more difficult fight for Manny than the Matthysse fight. Broner is not easy to hit clean. Still haven't decided which way I am swaying yet. Manny is the betting favorite but it wouldn't be a bad play on the moneyline with Broner. Broner's defensive ability and sharp-shooting against what I expect to be a busier, more aggressive (though well past-prime) Pacman. Hmmm...

In a perfect world, Manny sparks him out then retires. :) Cheers my brother!

My view is simply what I saw, and that is that he landed more. Harrison was more acfurate than Charlo. Compubox is garbage, Charlo was the aggressor, did all the damage, but he didn't outland Harrison in the majority of those rounds.

I agree he finished the fight stronger, I gave him the last couple, and the 10th was close, the 9th was a clear Harrison round in my book but to get to the point, Charlo needed the better finish, he was behind, Harrison was the more fatuiged, the fight was a draw on my card, because Charlo closed the gap in the last 2 rounds, what I'm saying is, had Harrison finished stronger, he would have clearly won, in my opinion anyway. This is what I meant when I called it a pointless discussion, we saw the fight very differently, and we won't change each other's opinions, interesting and worth discussing for a short time, respect your opinion.

I don't think they are particularly popular or unpopular, but I see what you are saying, still, I watched the fight, without rooting for either fighter, and I saw a very close fight, for what it is worth, I think it is poor to give Charlo 4 rounds, Harrison didn't win by a wide margin. 100% agree, they stink, Larry Merchant had a disgusting attitude, Max Kellerman was disrespectful, Lampley was a fool, I like all the US boxing networks apart from HBO.

Not when he gets his boxing together he isn't. It's a tough call, Pacquiao is better than Broner, but he is 40, Broner is 29.

'Sharp shooting', very important, that's what Broner needs, but he needs to take centre ring, get his jab going and set up the right hand. Broner lacks output, and mentally, his lack of respect and other issues, let's him down.

And how about Thurman vs Lopez? Good fight for Thurman? Tough enough for the champion layoff or not? I think it's a good one given Thurman is coming off almost 2 years out.

Thurman-Lopez is about what I expected from Keith after such a long layoff. Maybe even a little tougher than I thought he would pick. Still, if he's half the fighter he was that should be good enough to cruise to victory. For the excitement of the welterweight division, we hope he goes for the KO finish rather than the safety-first approach we've seem him do before. Hope he returns to the top of his game to challenge the assumed supremacy of Spence & Crawford. My concern about Thurman is whether or not his heart is still 100% in the sport.

Mostly agree, Lopez is not bad, but I think there is a difference in levels.

I think as well, he has been very unlucky with injuries, and that is not something that improves with age.

I agree about his heart, his desire, and we will find out when he fights.

If I were Porter, I would fight Crawford, Spence if the fight was there, give it my best shot, but I would be hammering for the Thurman rematch.

How about Spence vs Garcia, what if they were the same size?, and how much of a factor is the very significant size difference?

Mikey vs Spence? Brook vs GGG part 2. I like Mikey but Spence could really hurt him. Meanwhile we are still waiting for a Garcia-Loma pairing...or a Spence-Crawford matchup...those are the fights I want to see in 2019.

I don't think it's GGG vs Brook II because I think Mikey is a great fighter, Brook is good, but not great. I agree, but size difference or not, it is still a great match up, Spence vs Garcia, if they were the same size, who do you think would win?, I think they are both great, but I would lean towards Garcia based on the extra experience, but I think Spence's size advantage is more than enough to compensate

The "if they were the same size" hypothesis is always difficult for me, because fighters' movements, mechanics and power would change if they were bigger/smaller. In this case the difference is not so extreme as prevent consideration, but what if Loma was the same size as Joshua? Or Joshua the same size as Loma? That's a bit odd. But back to your point, if Spence/Garcia were the same size, I would consider the fight a pick-em, possibly shaded to Garcia. As it is, I'm worried about Garcia's ability to avoid and absorb Spence's attacks. I would give Garcia more of a chance if he was more fleet of foot (like when Pacman fought De La Hoya), but my view of Garcia is more of a flat-footed power puncher - albeit with excellent footwork, but not quick feet if that makes any sense. As far as who I will root for - Garcia. Cheers!

rds 5,10 swing imo
rds 5 & 10 go the other way..can every easily become a Charlo fight, Charlo closes both rounds strong but with an overhand right in the 5th and left uppercut in the 10th to make it very close in the Clean Punching category but single punches, not able to come back with a combo to steal em in rds where Harrison was landing most of the stinging power punches as counters from mid range (from what little landed among both fighters) and also winning in the other 3 categories imo
