Prediction,

I think Francisco Vargas will win this easily, I think he is a level above Salka, he's been more consistent, and he's a career super featherweight, I think Salka shouldn't have come down to 130, he could be weight drained, if he isn't then credit to him for working hard to cut the weight, because he was two divisions above, when he fought Danny Garcia in 2014, and he has had a lot of fights above 140, but he didn't make the weight in this fight, and the weight cut might have been too much.

I think Vargas stops Salka in 4-6 rounds.

I concur. Unless Salka uses that extra weight and lands a big shot early, he likely burns out by the 3rd, and lets Vargas finish him.

Decent performance from Vargas, not his best, I think the level of opponent meant a lack of a challenge, he looked a bit flat at times, but he dominated, got the job done. I think Vargas might get one more opportunity before retirement, I wouldn't mind seeing him fight WBA champion, Alberto Machado.

I'm just really glad that Salka got beat up after coming out in that Trump inspired b.s. I too would like to see Vargas get one more run. Has always been a hard worker and deserves it.

I don't like Salka either, he thought he would have a laugh at Brandon Rios for getting knocked out by Danny Garcia, well Salka, which one of you came up with 8 hard fought rounds and which did nothing for 3 tedious minutes?, who got up after getting put down and who stayed down?

SalTnutZ1's picture

Rios is a warrior. Salka is an idiot. He should just stay down and retire, because he showed so little last night.

What do you think of the idea of Shawn Porter vs Danny Garcia?

SalTnutZ1's picture

I think that would be a good fight. Both like to scrap and have very good resumes. I'd pick Garcia to edge it out, as I believe him to be the cleaner puncher. Both are tough and come prepared though, so it will be a war if it happens.

The reason why I like the fight is because of the interesting clash of styles and strengths and weaknesses.

It is hard to bet against a counter puncher, an adaptable fighter who can box going backwards as well as going forwards, who fights an opponent he beats in these important aspects, especially with Porter's disappointing history with trying box on the back foot, at all, and the obvious attribute he doesn't have, which is timing.

It is also hard to bet against a fighter with the combination of physical strength and lightening feet which help him mall his opponents faster then they can use their counter tactics, and he is fighting a guy who is not big for the weight, and is often in patches of difficulty because of his flat footed stature. I think as well, Garcia doesn't have a good jab, whereas Porter, absolutely does, and his output is very, very high, and Garcia's is not, I've seen him lose rounds before and nearly lose, partly due to him not throwing enough punches.

We could think about the Keith Thurman fight comparison, interestingly, Garcia lost an SD, Porter a UD, but many people think the Porter fight was closer, and a judge gave Garcia 4 rounds, less than all three gave Porter. Who did better against Thurman?, I gave them both 5 rounds, Garcia took a lot less punishment than Porter, fewer damaging punches, and he didn't walk into many like Porter did, but at the same time, Porter did much more, physically put Thurman through a much more gruelling ordeal, really made him dig deep, did more damage and landed a lot more punches.

Very interesting fight, let's hope it happens! It is the best chance either have of getting another world title shot before they expire, but at the same time, I suppose they are a threat to each other, and a loss would be devastating for either.
