Floyd Mayweather Jr. makes the fourth defense of his WBC Super Featherweight Championship against wiring Puerto Rican knockout specialist Carlos Gerena. Hoping to put on a show and attract interest a week prior to the super fight between Oscar De La Hoya and Felix Trinidad, Mayweather drops Gerena twice in the opening round. Mayweather continues to pound a talkative Gerena until the ringside doctor encourages Referee Richard Steele to stop the fight after the seventh round.
