Prediction.

Tishchenko is very big for the weight, Mchunu is small, he's very short, but the height aspect favours him technically, because he's likely further below the average cruiserweight height than Tischenko is above it, he uses his height to his advantage when he fights, he slips inside and makes himself small, he's awkward, and he's very experienced, but he hasn't been active, Tishchenko was a very good amateur, is very well schooled, and I think he's transitioned well to the professionals. I think footwork is important in this fight, Mchunu has the faster feet, so he might delay Tishchenko and move out of position before Tischenko can let his hands go, but Tishchenko uses his feet technically better, and I think he'll position his shots better than Mchunu as the rounds go on. I don't think Tischenko will maximize the use of his reach, he has a good, accurate jab, has deceptively fast hands, throws the double jab, but is offensively solid, can fight at mid and close range. Mchunu can hit Tischenko if he throws a combination on the inside, because Tischenko's guard is his main defence when he's static, but Tishchenko varies his attack to head and body very well, I don't think Mchunu can use his feet to turn Tischenko on the ropes as he has in other fights, I think Tischenko's pressure will be consistent, he will be selective and varied, will get his shots off, and will break Mchunu down.

I wouldn't be surprised if this went the distance, but I think Tischenko stops Mchunu in 7 or 8 rounds.

Did Tischenko really get blown out?

Champion97's picture

I don't know which was more of a factor, Tishchenko having an off night, or Mchunu boxing a career best performance. It looked like it was Tishchenko who had been inactive, Mchunu's timing and judgement of distance were great, he kept up with Tishchenko's footwork when he tried to change his position, his variety was good, he landed to the head and body. Mchunu's defence was phenomenal, Tishchenko let his hands go, and he often missed with every single shot in an offensive spell, he used his height, made himself small, Tishchenko over reached at long range. I was shocked by this fight, I was impressed by Tishchenko before this fight, but he was terrible in this fight, Mchunu would have been impressive if he'd been active, but he came off a year out, was supposed to be a step up, but wasn't supposed to be much of a threat to an up and coming prospect, but it was a master class from him.
