Prediction,

Great match up.

Good that Nietes gets another shot straight after that controversial draw against Palicte, that basically everyone disagrees with.

Nietes is a veteran, almost 350 rounds, 45-50 fights, one loss, hasn't lost since 2004, but he is very old, Ioka is in his prime, coming off a very good win and a great performance against Arroyo, and he is bigger than Nietes, he is 2 inches taller, has an extra inch of reach, and he started fighting at 112, 2-3 years later than Nietes. These are not big super flyweights, Ioka made 108 at the age of 24, but both have had a fight at 115 now, Nietes has been 12 rounds at 115, the championship rounds, at 115, are new to Ioka, but he has been 10 rounds, and is the naturally bigger fighter.

Nietes seems to be declining very slowly, whether or not it is a Philippino thing, I don't know, it is plausible though. Nietes is not fresh, but he doesn't have too many miles either, not for a fighter who has had nearly 50 fights, and I don't think he took much damage against Palicte, it was physically tough for him, against a much bigger opponent, but he was never really hurt. I don't think there is a reason for Nietes to be much further past it in this fight than he was against Palicte, and fighting an absolute tank of a super flyweight as well, great adaptation to the weight, and if he can fare well against a fighter of Palicte's size, size won't be an issue against Ioka, who is smaller than Palicte, but that is just the size aspect, and Nietes is fighting an opponent with experience and a couple of wins on a different level to Palicte. Nietes might get old overnight, just simply find his age catching up with him, maybe not, but if that time doesn't come in this fight, and he has a bit left in the tank, he has a great chance of winning this fight.

Ioka impressed against Arroyo, I thought he would lose that fight, he hadn't been active, Ioka, and the inactivity is still a possible factor even now, but he boxed very well. I'm not sure if Ioka is as good as some people think, I don't know if Arroyo had an off night, but Ioka was beaten by Ruenroeng, won close against Reveco the first time, and even the second time, didn't do anything like what Nietes did against Reveco, but Ioka has improved a lot since the first Reveco fight, the Ruenroeng fight.

I would not be at all surprised if this was a draw, I think Nietes is definitely the better fighter, but I think Ioka is more of a super flyweight than Nietes, he is tiny at this weight Nietes, still, skills, experience, might be enough for Nietes.

It is a very tough one to call, but I think Nietes might just edge it, closer than 55/45 in my opinion, and I think an SD, but I think Nietes will win, become a 4 weight world champion. I think Ioka is better than Palicte, not more dangerous, definitely not bigger, but he is better, and Nietes won't beat Ioka wider than most of us think he should have officially beaten Palicte.

Gold's picture

It's Levi Martinez again. This guy needs to be banned from judging but nothing will be done of course.

I saw some of this fight, I missed the first 2-3 rounds, and the quality wasn't good, but from what I could see, Nietes was very slow, and looked frustrated with the movement and slickness of Ioka, but he was the aggressor, blocked well, and had a great last round, I don't have a scorecard, but I know Nietes won the last round.
