Prediction,

Great match up, a unification fight, even in a division that isn't the strongest, is great to see in boxing.

Neither of these guys have seemed like spectacular fighters, but both are world champions, and have defended at least once, have both done 12, won decisions, and then got late stoppages in their last 2 fights.

This is an interesting fight, probably a 50/50 fight.

Roman is a come forward fighter, not a puncher, but he has great output, he proved against McDonnell, he does have some power, he is a good fundamental boxer, solid fighter, has great stamina, good chin. Doheny hits harder than Roman, but he doesn't have the output of Roman, he can box going backwards, might be more versatile, but he also has more faults, makes more mistakes. I think this is somewhat similar, stylistically, to a Jack vs DeGale.

I think Roman might just edge this one, I think he is very slightly better overall, it is a pick'em, I think this will be a close fight, but I think Roman will edge it, maybe even by SD.

First time I will see them fight. Don't know why Rigo is not a champion or fighting for one of those belts. I am a fan of his.

Gold's picture

Rigondeaux lost his title because the WBA informed him before the Lomachenko fight that if he lost, he would be stripped. Sanctioning bodies like the WBA are out to make money, so it was convenient for them to unfairly strip a very inactive champion that wasn't a draw in Rigondeaux for a champion that will have fought three times this year in Roman.

Awesome fight!
Two very well matched world champions, very competitive, Doheny boxing very well in the back foot, but fighting fire with fire, Roman pressuring, being the aggressor, and able to do more damage. Roman did extremely well to stay up in that 7th, but Doheny did extremely well to get up in the 11th from that sickener of a body shot, get through that round and probably nick the last.

I thought this was a very close fight, I thought if anything Roman was fortunate because he was hurt much worse in round 7 (questionable slip as well), than Doheny was in round 2, but I thought it was a draw. I don't like those cards, I don't see how Doheny won less than 5 rounds, but I can definitely see how you could score Roman a narrow winner.

Wouldn't be surprised if we see a rematch, great fight, very close as well, not a lot of fights out there at 122, so maybe a rematch will be next.

This was one of the best fights I've ever seen, wow!

Wish I got to see this live! I don't know if Doheny will be the same after this, this was a war that particularly hurt him. Three round of the year contenders in my eyes (4, 7 & 9) and no doubt a fight of the year contender. Made me a fan of both of these man
