Prediction,

Good to see Crolla fighting on a big bill like this, he got a great win against Ricky Burns back in October, coming off those two losses to Jorge Linares. Crolla has already overachieved, but he might still have a good year or two left, and it is always important in boxing to be busy.

I've never seen Ramirez fight, I know he has a record of 18-2, so he is not a bum. Ramirez has not fought at the level Crolla has fought at, that much is clear, I'm familiar very few of the fighters he has beaten, he lost to Jose Cayetano, a tough Mexican who fought Santa Cruz, Quigg, but didn't come close to beating either. It can be said for Ramirez, that he has not lost since 2012, which is good, he has also not been inactive.
I think Ramirez will be tough, these Mexican fighters who are capable enough that they win a lot more than they lose, are always game for a big fight, and because fighters like Ramirez don't really have anything to lose but plenty to gain, they take a lot of risks, make fast starts to fights.

I think this is about levels, and because of that, Crolla is going to win this, it will be one sided, but I do think it will be competitive, at least for a certain amount of time. I think both these guys will start the fight throwing in a high volume, I don't think they will struggle to land clean shots (especially not Crolla), and the fight will be close for a few rounds. I think as the fight goes on, Crolla's experience at a higher level will be more telling, he'll do some real damage as he lands more body shots in the mid rounds, and it will go more his way as it goes on. I think whether or not Crolla stops Ramirez depends on how sharp, aggressive Crolla is, and also how well conditioned, exactly how tough Ramirez is, but I think against an opponent like Ramirez, body shots are key for hurting him, and when Crolla attacks the body more often, will be him take a toll on his opponent, make it one sided.

My prediction is Crolla by late stoppage.

What do you guys have it after 4? I have this even.

Champion97's picture

I had it 3-1 Crolla, got it 8-2 now.

Boxing Purist's picture

I had it a draw.

Interesting how opinions can differ in boxing.

Very much so considering your card was spot on in line with the judges. I just thought Ramirez did a lot of good work that went un-credited. No problem with Crolla winning, just felt it was much closer than the majority of cards indicate. Guess it's like the commentators said "winning 60% of every round is still a 10 nil score."
