After Lamont Peterson failed the random drug test that his team asked for in the scheduled rematch with Amir Khan, Golden Boy decided to put Khan in with their WBC 140 lb. champion Danny "Swift" Garcia, who'd lifted the belt from the ancient Erik Morales in his last fight. That proved to be a huge error in judgment when Garcia proceeded to blast out the hapless Khan in four rounds, the last two of which were furious two-way action.

What a victory for Danny Garcia!
I thought Khan would win this fight comfortably, Garcia had the wins over Erik Morales, Kendall Holt, but I didn't think he would have what it took to have the beating of Khan.
I thought Khan was boxing out of his skin for 2 rounds, the speed of those combinations, he was just overwhelming Garcia, out working, it looked like he was on his way to a dominant victory, Garcia's eyes were both cut as well, I thought after 2 rounds, it looked like a little bit of a mismatch. I was shocked when Garcia just flattened Khan, out of nowhere, that big left hook came when Khan threw a wild uppercut, leaving himself vulnerable because his positioning, and he didn't see it coming, it just floored him, Khan did well to get up, but he couldn't recover, which was sad for him, although nobody can say he didn't go out on his shield, show tremendous heart, courage, going all out, coming off worse in a fight with Garcia, getting dropped another twice, still fighting on. Khan's survival instincts let him down, and if a fighter who over commits, has a vulnerable chin, gets hurt, and doesn't use his knowledge of how to survive, how to recover, he's in trouble, I think Freddie Roach must have told him not to just go swinging for the fences like that, if a fighter doesn't whole heartedly respect his fighter, then their working relationship is not good enough for the trainer to bring the best out of the fighter, and they should go in separate directions.

Garcia's fight changing left hook which he landed, when looked back on in slow motion, didn't look the most accurate, but it caught Khan clean on the chin, below the temple, and dropped him fair and square, the shot was much better than it looked in slow motion, it may not be a poster worthy punch, which looked great, but it did the damage, and it changed the fight drastically. To score a knockdown like that, you have to have been prepared to respond the right way, Garcia must have worked hard on catching Khan with the left hook, that was not just a 'lucky punch'. The mistake that Khan made with that clumsy uppercut, was a big one, not the hardest to capitalise upon, but when a fighter is not faster in hand, is behind, losing the fight, it is hard to capitalise at all upon mistakes unless they are ridiculous, and Garcia still deserves a lot of credit for landing with that left hook. If Garcia had been a long way behind after 11 rounds, and Khan made that mistake and got stopped in the closing seconds of the fight, then I would still insist that Garcia was the better man on the night, but I would also say the was an element of luck in the victory for Garcia, but when we consider that Khan dominated 2 rounds, not 10, the third round, before the knockdown was closer than the first two, the first round I think was the most one sided, we see that it is not not fair on Garcia to make excuses for Khan, because we have no idea, without the mistake from Khan, how Garcia would have progressed through the mid and late rounds, I believe he would still have won, with a close decision win, maybe split, but I think Garcia would have found a way to win, this fight didn't go 4, so we never found out how the fight would have panned out in the last half, I believe Garcia is the better of the two boxers.

Now, in 2017, I think Garcia vs Khan II can still happen, it is a great match up, at this stage of their careers, Khan needs a win, Garcia, well he could do with a win, he's coming off a loss, his only defeat so far, to unbeaten two belt world champion Keith Thurman.
