Re: Alexander Povetkin vs Eddie Chambers
This was a great technical heavyweight scrap, an interesting matchup between two highly skilled boxers fighting opposite styles. The first half of the fight was competitive with Chambers seemingly having the upper hand, Povetkin, who has always been a slow starter, was struggling with Eddie's upper-body movement and hand-speed (at some point Eddie's landed/thrown ratio was around 40-50%), not being able to fully apply the pressure, he did however found success working Chambers' body. Povetkin's impressive body work eventually paid off, by the middle rounds Chambers slowed down, allowing Povetkin to step up the aggression, since then Povetkin did not allow Chambers to regain composure, he was eating hard counters from time to time but other than that he ovewhelmed Chambers with relentless pressure and workrate, after the 8th and 9th rounds it seemed like Chambers might be returning back into the fight but Povetkin did not allow the victory to slip through his fingers. The decision was fair, Povetkin definitely deserved the victory in my eyes, the 119-109 score was way too wide, I can see some people giving more credit to Povetkin's activity over Chambers' more precise but less frequent shots, but I just couldn't bring myself to giving Povetkin eleven (!) rounds.
