Prediction,

Good fight.

Saucedo is good, 23, so still learning, but he is 27-0, so he has a lot of professional boxing experience for a young fighter. In his last fight, he was tested, Saucedo, he fought a tough opponent, an opponent with a lot of output, an experienced opponent, he struggled for defence, took a lot of punches, but Saucedo, at the worst of times, was just in a close back and fourth fight, landing less but landing the better shots, and after 3 or 4 rounds, Saucedo came on strong, his skill became more of a factor, and in round 7, Saucedo made what looked to be a hard fought win into a real statement, with an agonising bodyshot. Saucedo is training with Abel Sanchez, a top trainer, so tactically, he must be well taught in the gym and during fights. I think Saucedo is a good fighter, but I don't think he is the best in the division, and even if he has that level of potential, I don't think he is ready for Prograis, Ramirez at this stage.

Leonardo Zappavigna is a good fighter, 37-3, very good record, he lost to Miguel Vazquez and then Ammeth Diaz straight after, but that was back in 2011, since then, he has had 13 fights, won 12 of them, and lost only to Sergey Lipinets, a fight he was doing well in, he wasn't ahead on the scorecards, but they were close after 7 rounds, before he was stopped against the Russian. Zappavigna is 30, so he is not an old fighter, 40 fights, he has a lot of experience, he was a good amateur as well, he isn't a very good world level fighter I don't think, I think his fights have proven how good he is, but he is very good at a high level, definitely good enough, experienced enough to make young fighters pay for making mistakes in the ring.

I think this might be the toughest fight of Saucedo's career so far, his first 21 fights were all low level, professional fights, and that's it, his last two opponents have been better, especially Lopez, but I think Zappavigna is a slight step up. This is a good test for Saucedo, Zappavigna can punch, so Saucedo has to be careful in this fight, watch out for defensive slacking in the early rounds. I think this will be a tough fight for Saucedo, he might struggle a little bit for experience and maturity, it will be a good learning fight for him. I think Zappavigna will start very well, he might seem to be edging it after 4 rounds, but I think Saucedo will take over in rounds 5-7, as the more talented fighter, with maybe more skill, and more versatility. I think Saucedo will be taken into the later rounds, tested for stamina, tactical discipline. I think Saucedo will hold his own, be in a tough, competitive fight, but probably get the better of the last few rounds.

I think Saucedo wins this by UD, maybe 96-94/97-93.

Round 4 was one of the most exciting and competitive rounds of Boxing that I've seen in a long time!

That was great, Lenny Z almost had him out of there but Saucedo battled back. Really quality fight between two very game guys!

SalTnutZ1's picture

Lenny was winning 3rd until he was dropped as well. Saucedo was lucky this ref let them bang. A lot would have stopped when he took so many power shots without firing back. The kid has a heart and a chin on him.

100% agree with that. Should be interesting to see him versus Hooker.

Fantastic fight, FOTY so far for me, Saucedo was so hurt in the 4th I was screaming take a knee for fear of the ref stopping it.

Rarely do we get to see a spectacle like that. But that is why we watch and what we wait for. RESPECT to both warriors. FOTY. Also props to ref for not stopping it, props to Z's corner for stopping it when they did and props to OKC fans for coming out in numbers and loving every second of it.
