Most boxing experts thought Morales stood no chance against the bigger, more powerful, in-prime Maidana, but El Terrible turned back the clock with an inspiring performance. Unfortunately, the HBO PPV numbers were also terrible--reported 50,000 or less.

It was great to see flashes of the old brilliance. I still fear for his long-term health, though, if he continues fighting.

rorschach's picture

First time watching!

Zoe's picture

A great fight not to be missed.

Champion97's picture

I just realised that I scored Maidana vs Morales exactly the same way you did. We even scored the exact rounds the same way.

Zoe's picture

In that case I think you must be a good judge.

I also saw your note about some fights to add, I've been mostly offline for over a week, my baby niece is in the hospital and will be for a while, so I'm not going to be around much the next few weeks. I'll catch up when I get back, and don't be shy about asking again later.

Champion97's picture

well, I don't like to brag.

I hope your baby niece is OK. I don't mind about those other fights. As it happens I do have a few other fight suggestions. Don't worry, I'm not shy. I will send them to you maybe in a few weeks when your niece is better and you have more free time.

Porter vs Brook tonight. I live in England so I have to wait until about 4 in the morning if I want to watch it live.

Zoe's picture

Also this is one of my favorite fights of all time, if I had to make a list.

Champion97's picture

It's one of mine too. I love the way there's no holding or leaning, just 2 warriors battling it out for 12 rounds. As a fan of the legend who exposed Floyd Mayweather and in my opinion beat him after owning Adrien Broner I don't like saying this but who likes a biased judge? Morales is s true warrior and boxed beautifully in this fight. This is why Maidana is my favourite fighter though, whatever fight he has it always ends up being a classic. Just compare this Maidana to the new and improved Maidana that Robert Garcia has done an excellent job of training. Even in this fight he kept on throwing and what fighting from him the last 2 rounds.

I would much rather have fights like this and lose like Morales did every time that be like Mayweather and win a boring chess match every time.

Champion97's picture

Hi Zoe, I have just realised that I have lost a considerable amount of points and I was wondering if there was some sort of fault with the points system or if it is some sort of punishment for using bad language on this site in the past but I don't get that seeing as I got rid of all of it.
BTW there are a few more fights that I would like to score:
Bugner vs Cooper
Abril vs Bogere
Bugner vs Frazier
Walsh vs Appleby.

Zoe's picture

Naw, I wouldn't change points. Points are automatic - do you have an idea how much are missing? I might have a problem with the point system.

Champion97's picture

So sorry I made a mistake, there is nothing wrong with the points system, I lost none from the total points list only the points from the past 60 days, I know you must be wandering how on earth I didn't see that, I'm an idiot. Are you watching mayhem now?

Zoe's picture

Not watching yet. I'm pumped though. I think your predictions regarding El Chino are coming true shortly...

Champion97's picture

I just trying for the life of me to stay awake and it is not easy whilst watching a tedious Vasquez vs Bay. Its 2:47 am for me, I just can't wait for the main event, let's just hope that chino has found that blueprint to crush that horrible Floyd May weather. The fight is being presented by some idiots over here I can tell you, most people here reckon Maiadan won no more than 3 or 4 rounds in the first fight, terrible. Did you see Angelo lose? I honestly think that he can still bounce back from this though.

Champion97's picture
Champion97's picture

This fight was an absolute classic. these 2 warriors both did themselves proud. As I have mentioned on this site before Marcos Maidana is my favourite fighter because there is never a dull boxing match that he is involved in. His performance against Victor Ortiz was legendary. He came so close to stopping Amir Khan and that performance against Adrien Broner can never be forgotten. He outfought Adrien broner throughout pretty much the whole fight. Erik Morales is an all time great warrior. Everybody who is anybody must have so much respect for him. He boxed beautifully in this fight and he showed Maidana how great he still was. Such a close fight. To be honest even though Maidana is my favourite fighter I wouldn't have minded if he hadn't got the decision. I would've liked to see a draw. I think that me saying that shows that I'm unbiased. It is fair to say either man won the fight. I have no problem with a couple of points either way. To be honest 4 rounds is the absolute minimum that either man could legitimately get in all fairness. I do think that if it had been the new and improved el chino who Robert Garcia has done a great job in training then he would have probably stopped Morales though. I think it would be a late stoppage but Morales would still refuse to quit. I personally thought that this fight was a draw. Although I'm a fan of chino I would love to say I thought he won this fight but it's not true. Maidana boxed very well in the first 2 rounds and the last 2 rounds. He heavily outlanded Morales in rounds 1,11 and 12. I think that the reason Maidana didn't clearly win this fight is because Morales outboxed him in too many rounds. I felt that although he was coming forward and throwing in round 3 he was being outboxed and in rounds 4 and 5 Erik was outclassing him. I felt that Maidana was in real scorecard trouble after 10 rounds but then to come back and the thoroughly outwork and outland Morales was very impressive. He also had a lot of success to the head an body in round 2, I take my hat off 2 both these great warriors.

albertocastany's picture

El Terrible at his finest! Lots of heart...lots of brain...lots of badness.

Champion97's picture

Agreed, el terrible is a true warrior with so much heart and he would have won this fight had he not been fighting the relentless boxing legend that is Marcos Maidana, Morales was past his best and Maidana was unprepared so I think if Maidana had prepared then he would have stopped Morales, having said that Morales would have clearly beaten unprepared Maidana had he been in his prime. Morales was not fighting in this bout for money but for honour. I would love to say I felt that chino deserved the win but I woun't lie. I should be fair as a decent judge. I scored this a draw because I understand boxing. Interesting that you, me and Zoe all scored this fight exactly the same way.

Zoe's picture

Hey guys, I'm back. I'm going to be going through and catching up on requests for fights to add to the vault later on today.

albertocastany's picture

WB! hope everything is ok

Champion97's picture

Everything is absolutely fine thanks.

Zoe's picture

Thanks. Yeah all is good, had to take some time off for family, but the family are all currently alive AND healthy. What more can I ask for? Life is getting back to normal and I am thankful.

Champion97's picture

Nice to know you're back, how have you been? There were some fight requests if you would like to upload
Gavin vs Bundu
Trout vs Dawson
Walsh vs Appleby
Hall vs Malinga
Hall vs Butler

Zoe's picture

I've been great in the past few days. Trying to catch the remaining days of summer if possible. Yeah, before I took my short hiatus I had some request from you, and I've seen a few more in comments here and there. I added your first two:

Leonard Bundu vs. Frankie Gavin

Austin Trout vs. Daniel Dawson

Zoe's picture

One more before I have to sign off:

Stuart Hall vs. Paul Butler

BTW, when I add fights I haven't seen and I see the fighters listed multiple ways by other sites, I'll usually check on boxrec, and just list the guy that boxrec lists first first. You said you're in the UK, correct? If I list any of these fighters backwards let me know, means I'm not paying attention. Not a big deal, but I want EOTR to be as accurate as possible. (My ideal is that I have watched and scored every fight on EOTR, and know all the fights. But I'm far from that at the moment. I was unemployed when I started this whole thing, and haven't been able to keep up since I started working full time again.)

Champion97's picture

Sorry it's taken me a while to reply, yes I live in the UK and don't worry you didn't list any of the fighters backwards, I think EOTR is very accurate. I must say it would be nearly impossible to score every fight on this site and work at the same time. I suppose each scorer could score a different bunch of fights, that way every fight gets scored but you wouldn't need to score every one. So glad I can score Hall vs Butler, I remember it being live on boxnation and disagreeing with the decision. One thing that I find frustrating about being in Britain is that although they are in the vault I can't find some of the fights that I want to watch and score, Broner vs Taylor wasn't shown over here. Thanks again for uploading those fights.
